I recently sent a divorce petition to the family court sitting at Guildford for issue. Rather than the usual case reference prefixed by GU15D the document I received back form the court had a BV15D prefix and across the top a reference to the Family Court at Bury St Edmunds.
My client asked why. The reason is simple. Divorce centres.
The transfer of work to the London and South East divorce centre at Bury St Edmunds from courts in Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Sussex, Kent, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Thames Valley and Greater London will be phased in over the period April to October 2015.
Surrey's work generated in Guildford, Reigate and Staines County Courts has already been transferred as a consequence of arrears of work building up at the courts.
Petitions and finance applications usually issued in courts in Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Sussex and Kent are likely to have to begin to be sent to Bury St Edmunds during April. Those for the Central Family Court will currently be sent there from the week beginning 15 June.
